How the trial will work at launch
When Canopy launches, paid tiers will include a 14-day free trial. Here's what to expect.

Receive your license key by email
At launch, your trial license key will arrive within 2 minutes. Run
canopy activate <key>
and all features will unlock immediately.

Use the full feature set of your tier for 14 days.

Convert or cancel on day 14
If you love it, do nothing — your subscription will activate on day 15 and a new license key will arrive by email. If not, cancel via your portal before day 15. No charge.

Common questions
- How will the trial work at launch?
- Paid tiers will include a 14-day free trial. You'll enter your card on the Stripe checkout page — it won't be charged until day 15. A trial license key will arrive within 2 minutes so you can start immediately. If you cancel before day 15, you won't be charged.
- Will I need a card to start the trial?
- Yes. Stripe will hold your card upfront. This is intentional — it filters for customers who are evaluating Canopy seriously. Your card will not be charged until day 15.
- Will I be able to switch tiers during my trial?
- You'll get one trial per Stripe account (enforced by Stripe Radar via email and card fingerprint). Pick the tier that fits your situation. If you're unsure, Pro is the best starting point for developers who want CI mode and multi-repo search.
- What happens when the trial ends?
- If you do nothing, your subscription will activate and you'll be charged on day 15. You'll receive a new license key by email valid for your full subscription term. If you cancel before day 15, you won't be charged and Canopy will fall back to Community Mode (1 repo, core search, CLI only).
- Does Canopy phone home?
- Canopy will send a weekly license health check — a hash of your license key, your client version, and your platform. No code, queries, or file paths are ever transmitted. See the privacy policy for full detail.
- How do I cancel?
- At launch, you'll be able to cancel via your customer portal before day 15. No hoops, no support ticket required.
Community Mode will be free at launch.
